The first day of school this year felt oddly relaxing.
Normally there is the panic over dealing with the new teachers, reviewing the course syllabus, and the thought of the amount of work that you will have to do throughout the year, but not this time. What made the difference this year is the fact that you know every one of your classmates by name, and there are no awkward first meetings.
The classes are not as close as they were at the end of last year, but overall it was nice coming back and seeing everyone again.
The other thing was that the teachers were not nearly as scary as they were last year. [editor’s note: Us? Scary? Perish the thought. 🙂] It is relaxing seeing them again and already knowing how each one grades and how much work to expect in each class. Even though summertime is ending, most of the seniors are pretty excited about this year.
For the majority of us, it will be the last first day of school that we have our parents rushing after us to take one more first day of school picture. We know that we’re almost finished…Now just 179 more days to go.
