While our senior students were on the trip to Blandy Experimental Farm, our juniors engaged in some good ol’ flex day shenanigans. Our flex days are usually full of seminars, PAL groups, and projects (oh, my!), but here at the end of the year, we tried to come up with a flex day that was challenging, but also fun.
The MVGS Annual Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza™ was born.
Student were placed in teams of two or three people and then given a 45-clue sheet to begin the Extravaganza™. In order to successfully find an item, they had to interpret the clues correctly. The MVGS Annual Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza™ was a picture scavenger hunt, and the sheet directed them to either take a picture of their item, take a group picture with the item, or figure out a larger clue and bring back a piece of information about the item.
Here’s an example of a clue: Next door to SMITH and FDC you’ll find something pretty damp. Take a group picture next to it.
Just to make sure that everyone successfully figured out at least one clue (which turned out to not be much of a worry), we included some clues that were obvious, but required some effort to obtain: The rugby post. Take a group photo.
In the end, the winning team obtained 43 out of the requested 45 items! Most teams figured out at least 30 of the items. The MVGS Annual Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza 2012 edition™ was a great success, and we’re looking forward to a new version (harder clues, maybe?) next year!
